Genocid u Srebrenici
Binasa Memić

Description: The abstract work Genocide in Srebrenica features white mezars—stylized Muslim tombstones—set against a green field. Through a simple color contrast of white and green, the piece pays tribute to the victims of the genocide, symbolizing the innocent lives brutally taken.

The abstraction evokes deep emotions of grief and remembrance, with the white tombstones highlighting the purity and innocence of those lost. With this painting, I aim to preserve the memory of the Genocide endured by my people, conveying a message of peace and the importance of collective remembrance.

About the artist: Binasa Memić, academic painter born in 2000 in Sarajevo, dedicated to abstract painting. After graduating from the High School of Applied Arts in Sarajevo, the department for applied painting in the class of prof. Hamzalija Muhića, in 2019 she entered the Department of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo.

The diploma thesis entitled "The structure of geometric abstraction in the relations of form and color", defended in July 2023, investigates the complex relations between form and color, demonstrating its analytical and aesthetic sensitivity, under the mentorship of Assoc. M.Sc. Nataliye Salikovich. Binasa received her master's degree in painting in September 2024 under the mentorship of Prof. M.Sc. Amer Bakšić on the topic "Meaning relationships of colors and shapes within abstract expression".

Her creativity continuously explores new dimensions of abstract expression, pushing the boundaries of perception and interpretation. In August and September 2024, she had solo exhibitions, which further confirmed her artistic path. An active member of the Association of Fine Artists of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Association of Fine Artists of the Croatian Cultural Society Napredak Sarajevo, she contributes to the richness of the cultural scene through participation in collective exhibitions and art colonies.
