Through their eyes
Teodora Cernescu

Description: This artwork shows the long lasting impact and the trauma of war through two silhouetted profiles. Inside the profiles we find two different but connected views of war, each filled with images of destruction, conflict and division.

This artwork reflects the wars in the former Yugoslavia and the personal and shared memories of those who experienced them. It makes the viewer think about both sides of war: the aggressor and the victim and how the lines between them can sometimes become blured. Through its strong imagery the artwork reminds us of the past, it encourages understanding and calls for justice.

About the artist: Teodora Cernescu, born June 28. 2003, is a Romanian visual artist whose work explores themes of identity, perception and human emotion. She has been passionate about art from an early age pursuing training at the High School of Arts in Timișoara before continuing her studies at the Faculty of Arts and Design in Timișoara where she is currently in her final year.

Her artistic practice blends figurative and abstract elements often incorporating layered textures, symbolic imagery and contrasting forms to challenge conventional ideas of beauty, self-perception and societal expectations.

Working across various mediums including painting, collage and digital art, Teodora experiments with form, color and symbolism to explore and experiment. She is particularly interested in the relationship between the seen and the unseen, the exterior self versus inner truth. Her work often incorporates fragmented figures, silhouettes and contrasting images to challenge conventional ideas of beauty, power and representation.

Teodora continues to develop her artistic path aiming to create work that resonates with audiences on both an emotional and intellectual level.
